VS Code
The free editor most developers install first.
What it is
Visual Studio Code is a free editor from Microsoft: files, terminal, git, and a huge extension market. It is not Cursor (we list that under AI tools). It is the base app. If you write HTML, scripts, or notes in Markdown, this is the window they live in.
